A study from Juniper Research has revealed which chargeback management providers will lead the global market in 2025.
The Competitor Leaderboard ranked the top 15 chargeback management platforms across several criteria, including the extent to which each vendor covers prevention and dispute management, how well industry verticals are served, and future business prospects.
The top five leaders for 2025 are:
- FIS
- Verifi
- Riskified
- Mastercard
- Fiserv
The report identified that market leaders are effectively shifting their efforts towards chargeback prevention. For example, Verifi’s Order Insight provides issuers and customers with enhanced purchase information; preventing disputes before they are raised. Another example is Riskified; using AI models to reduce false positives and verify transactions.
The study recommends to reach greater numbers of merchants, vendors must offer chargeback management services via different access models, including fully managed services and modular Software-as-a-Service solutions. This will enable merchants to choose their own level of involvement; catering to diverse merchant requirements.
The report also highlighted the increasing prevalence of friendly fraud chargebacks, where a cardholder disputes a legitimate purchase, as transforming requirements within the chargeback management space.
Report co-author Nick Maynard said: “Friendly fraud lacks many of the typical indicators that third-party fraud usually possesses; making prevention highly challenging and exposing weaknesses within merchant checkouts processes. Chargeback management vendors must not only evolve their own models to improve win rates for friendly fraud, but also conduct audits of checkout processes and other customer touchpoints to enable merchants to be better prepared for disputes before they occur.”
